Ulrich extends contract and departs on loan

The 21-year-old midfielder has signed a new VfB deal and will spend next term in the Bundesliga with newly promoted SC Paderborn.

VfB Stuttgart have added another year to Laurin Ulrich’s contract, which was set to expire on 30 June 2027. After spending last season with second-division side 1. FC Magdeburg, the 21-year-old midfielder will be going out on loan again for a year, this time with newly promoted Bundesliga club Paderborn, giving him the chance to get game time in the German top tier.

“Laurin Ulrich is a special player for us, someone who has been part of our youth system from a very early age and made consistent progress, all the way through to Bundesliga 2 with Magdeburg,” said board member for sport Fabian Wohlgemuth. “He is VfB through and through. Going on loan to Paderborn will give Laurin the opportunity to take the next step in his career in the Bundesliga. We would like to wish him every success and will certainly be monitoring his progress closely.”

With VfB since the U12s

Ulrich has been part of the club since 2016, joining VfB from TSG Nattheim. He won the silver Fritz Walter German youth football medal in 2022 and made his Bundesliga debut at the end of that year. During the 2023/24 season, he played a major role in VfB’s U21 side winning the Regionalliga and earning promotion to the third division.

VfB would like to wish Laurin Ulrich all the very best for the 2026/27 season!
