VfB’s first training session in Grassau was a sweat-inducing one in temperatures around 32 degrees Celsius. Nevertheless, Angelo Stiller still had enough energy afterwards to sign some autographs and take selfies with fans for a few minutes.
Approximately 400 supporters were in attendance at the ASV Grassau sports complex on Monday afternoon to follow the team’s public training session. Stiller has clear expectations of the camp - and has been very much looking forward to it.
Hi Ange, you’ve been back at VfB since last Friday. How has it been?
Angelo Stiller: “I was delighted to finally see the lads again. Obviously having a break did me a lot of good, but after a little while you’re itching to get back again. Things have gone well at VfB. The first day is always really tough as the performance tests are very demanding, but I came through them well and I’m ready for the rest of pre-season.”
Angelo Stiller:
At the training camp we have the chance to grow even closer as a team.
What were your first impressions of the training camp at Grassau on Chiemsee Lake?
Stiller: “The pitch is in very good condition and the hotel is great. The conditions here in Grassau are really good. It was very hot out on the pitch yesterday afternoon, but that’s preferable to rain.”
What role do training camps have in bringing the team closer together?
Stiller: “That’s obviously a very important factor. We get to spend time with each other all day, and not only on the pitch but also at meal times and playing cards. We chat to each other a lot. There’s a good atmosphere in the team, so there’s always a bit of banter and joking around as well. At the training camp we have the chance to grow even closer as a team.”
How much are you already looking forward to playing in three competitions again in the new season?
Stiller: “We worked throughout the entire season to get back into the Champions League, and we managed to do just that. Now the focus is on getting in the best shape possible in order to be successful in all three competitions. I can’t wait.”
