The internationals are back in Stuttgart – among them Maximilian Mittelstädt. The 29-year-old played his first game for Germany since September 2025 last Thursday in Munich and made a vital contribution with his assist for the second goal in the 2-0 UEFA Nations League win against Serbia.
“I was really happy to wear the eagle on my chest again,” said the left-back, who now has 16 caps for the national team. “It was a very interesting and useful week, in which we produced two pretty good performances against Serbia and Greece. We won possession back quickly and showed some nice patterns of play.”
Mittelstädt resumed team training at the VfB club centre on Tuesday. “I’m glad to be back here. You certainly miss the boys a bit when you’re away for one or two weeks. We’ll bring back the energy we’ve gained from the national teams.”
The Cannstatt boys will need plenty of energy over the coming weeks as they face seven matches in three competitions before the end of October, five of them away from home. It starts with the Bundesliga meeting away to SC Paderborn this Saturday. “It’s an extremely important match to kick things off and we desperately want three points,” added Mittelstädt. “We’re looking forward to the game and will give it everything.”
