The German national team claimed their first win under coach Jürgen Klopp on Thursday night with a 2-0 victory over Serbia in Munich. Maximilian Mittelstädt featured for Germany for the first time in 16 months. The VfB left-back got through the full 90 minutes and played a key role in the positive outcome of the third match of the new Nations League campaign with his assist for the second goal, scored by Liverpool’s Florian Wirtz.
Finn Jeltsch, who was in the Germany squad for the first time, didn’t feature but will be hoping to make his senior debut in the final match of the current international break, which sees Klopp’s men take on Greece in Thessaloniki at 20:45 CEST on Sunday 4 October.
Defeat for Danes
It was a less successful night for Denmark and VfB’s Nikolas Nartey, who went down to a 4-2 defeat at home to Portugal. Nartey came on after 80 minutes for his second international appearance. Like Germany, the Danes are back in Nations League action on Sunday as they visit Wales in the capital city Cardiff (20:45 CEST).
