The first international break of the 2026/27 season has come to a close. It remained eventful right until the end for the boys from Cannstatt, with Dzenan Pejcinovic in particular having plenty of reason to celebrate: the VfB striker helped Germany U21s qualify for the UEFA European Under-21 Championship. On Tuesday evening, the German youngsters beat Georgia 2-0 in Bielefeld, with Pejcinovic scoring both goals and playing 87 minutes.
Germany U21s finished the qualifying campaign top of their group, collecting an impressive 27 points from ten matches. The U21 EURO will take place in Albania and Serbia in summer 2027.
Another VfB player made his U21 debut, with Yanik Spalt coming on for Austria U21s in the 78th minute as his side recorded a 7-1 win over Wales on Tuesday evening. Austria therefore finished the U21 qualifying campaign in third place, which unfortunately is not enough to clinch a place at the tournament.
Leo Sauer, meanwhile, returns to Cannstatt with Slovakia top of their UEFA Nations League group. His country recorded a 4-0 win away to Moldova on Tuesday evening in a match in which the VfB attacker came on in the 67th minute and provided the assist for the fourth and final goal.
After four of their six matches, Slovakia sit top of Group C3 and therefore remain in a strong position to win promotion to League B.
