“I’m really looking forward to the new season”

Ermedin Demirovic has his eye on two dates in particular as he eagerly looks forward to the new season.

Ermedin Demirovic was able to fulfil a lifelong dream over the summer when he participated at the World Cup 2026 in the USA, Canada and Mexico with Bosnia and Herzegovina, reaching the round of 32. With memories of the tournament still fresh, the forward had time to let it all sink in while on holiday over the last few weeks.

“It was a special time, and we made Bosnia and Herzegovina proud,” the striker said. Now back at VfB, his focus is firmly on the new season.

Forty-three goal contributions in 87 games

The 28-year-old has returned right at the deep end. “It’s been cool to pretty much go straight into the training camp and spend a lot of time with the boys,” he said. After arriving in Grassau on Monday, the players underwent their first double session of the camp on Tuesday.

“We can work on a lot of things and spend a lot of time with each other,” said Demirovic. “We’re participating in three competitions again, so it’s going to be a tough season. That makes it all the more important that we prepare well for it. I’m very happy at VfB. I want to help the team and lead from the front. I’m really looking forward to the new season.”

“I’d love to play away at Arsenal or Liverpool”

That is partly due to VfB once again playing in the UEFA Champions League. “There are only big-name teams in the competition,” Demirovic continued. “If I could choose, I’d love to play away at Arsenal or Liverpool.”

The forward will find out if his wish will come true when the draw is made on Thursday 27 August, but he already has another date circled on his calendar.

Reunion with Dzeko

Specifically, Matchday 10 of the 2026/27 Bundesliga season, when VfB travel to Schalke at the end of November. It is a fixture that will pit Demirovic against his strike partner in the national team, Edin Dzeko.

“Everywhere he’s been, he’s consistently shown that he’s an outstanding striker,” said Demirovic. “I can’t wait to face him in the Bundesliga.”
