VfB coach Pellegrino Matarazzo: “I’m looking at it from a positive point of view in that we created a lot of chances. Today, you could see what we’re capable of, but also what we’re not capable of. There were a lot of positives that we can take out of it. The first two goals that we let in came from set pieces that were well taken and we didn’t get in there and challenge for the ball when it came in.”
Gonzalo Castro: “We were certainly taught a lesson or two, particularly in the first half. We let in two easy goals but we showed character and got the scoreline back to 3-2 and should actually have had a penalty as well. There’s a lot that we can take out of this match.”
Marc Oliver Kempf: “It was our first match back in the Bundesliga and at times we were too passive. We didn’t allow the opposition a lot of space but we still managed to let three goals in. One real positive was that we didn’t give up right to the very end, pulled it back to 3-2 and had a chance to equalise. We need to build on this, learn from our mistakes and keep on giving it all that we’ve got.”
