Post-match reaction

VfB head coach Pellegrino Matarazzo: “Unfortunately we fell behind with Hoffenheim’s first chance of the game. We’d been playing very well up until then and we didn’t ease off after they scored – instead we kept going and deservedly got two goals of our own. At the end of the day the 3-3 draw is evidence of the team’s character. We’ll have to wait and see how serious Nicolas Gonzalez’s injury is, but it’s very likely that it’s a tear to the anterior ligaments in his knee. It’ll be a couple of weeks before he can get back out on the pitch.”

Gregor Kobel: “We started really strongly and played very well in the first half. The second half wasn’t as good from us. Hoffenheim put us under more pressure, especially in midfield and up front. Overall I think it’s fair that we equalised at 3-3 at the end, and we should be happy with that.”

Marc Oliver Kempf: “It’s good that we at least managed to take a point from the game. We made good use of the space we had and were able to create some good chances. Hoffenheim changed things around in the second half and attacked us more aggressively up front. You saw again today that we’ve got fighting spirit and that we all keep going until the very end to get something from the match.”
