Post-match quotes

After the 3-0 defeat to Borussia Mönchengladbach, all those in the VfB Stuttgart camp agreed that Markus Weinzierl's side did well until midway through the second half, but in the end injuries took their toll.

VfB head coach Markus Weinzierl: "We were solid and did well for 70 minutes. Today lots of things worked against us: if we hadn't had the personnel issues and had to make two early substitutions, then there would have been more in it for us. As it was, Gladbach made two attacking changes midway through the second half – that gave them renewed momentum and we couldn't hold firm any longer."

Mario Gomez: "We had good periods and were strong in our challenges in the first half. Gladbach struggled to come to terms with our game and found no response. Unfortunately I didn't make it 1-0, which is tough for the team and for me. You also have to be honest and admit that we found it tough to get close to their goal in the second half. We'll lift our heads up, keep going and won't give up."

Ron-Robert Zieler: "We did well defensively until midway through the second half. We had to change things a few times during the game because of injuries, and that didn't make things any easier. After going behind, it was really difficult for us to come back. We need to deal with this setback and then from Monday focus on our home game against Hertha Berlin."
