In mid-December, two coaches from the VfB Football School travelled to the USA to run a number of football camps in conjunction with cooperation partner Forza. Over 50 kids between the Under-8 and Under-11 age categories took part in the camps in Austin and Edinburgh (Texas), and they were given an exciting glimpse of some of VfB training methods and the club’s football school.
The main focus of the training sessions was on basic football-related skills such as shooting, going from defence to attack and vice versa, and small-sided games. The sessions were adapted to the respective age groups and combined technical tasks with fun elements, to ensure that a love of the game was always at the forefront.
Special elements to the programme
Sunday was the first day of camp in Austin and things got off to a flying start when decathlon world champion Leo Neugebauer paid a visit. He led the warm-down session personally and took part himself.
A special watch party was also held to kick off the camp, with participants getting to follow VfB’s Bundesliga clash away at SV Werder Bremen. This gave them all the opportunity to get to know one another and exchange experiences.
There was then a second watch party for the Bundesliga home game against TSG Hoffenheim, with some 50 fans taking part and demonstrating the close ties that the club has created off the pitch.
