Annual visit to Tannheim

Once again, VfB made the most of one of the international breaks this autumn to spend a morning visiting the after-care clinic in Tannheim as part of its VfBfairplay commitments.

Nine am saw the team bus pull out onto the Mercedesstrasse and set off on a 130-kilometre drive to Tannheim in the Black Forest. VfB has had a very close partnership with the after-care clinic for children and youngsters suffering from cancer, heart disease and cystic fibrosis ever since 1993, with the annual visit becoming something of a tradition, although for VfB head coach Tim Walter and a good number of his players it was their first trip.

Financial and moral support since 1993

Once again, VfB is taking on financial responsibility and covering all the costs of the "Fritzle Tower", with 20,000 euros coming from the VfBfairplay fund. In addition to this money, moral support is just as important, with the young patients getting the opportunity to meet their footballing heroes. First there was an autograph session, followed by lunch with time for everyone to chat and get to know one another a little better, and even have a kick-about on the nearby artificial pitch.

To date, the financial support from the VfBfairplay fund has seen around 600,000 euros donated to help the not-for-profit family-orientated rehabilitation centre for cancer, heart disease and cystic fibrosis patients. Over the years, this partnership has become a real focus of VfB’s commitments.
