Shirt numbers sometimes have a special meaning for footballers, and that’s the case for VfB goalkeeper Dennis Seimen: “In my first training session with the first team at VfB, our kit man Michael Meusch gave me the 41 shirt. That was a special moment for me. I also wore 41 for Paderborn last season,” explained the 20-year-old, who won promotion to the Bundesliga with his loan club. “I therefore associate the number with a great success, and I immediately chose it again at VfB.”
Grischa Prömel took a slightly more pragmatic approach to his choice of shirt number. The new signing from TSG Hoffenheim, who was born in Cannstatt, chose 21. What’s the reason? “For a start, there weren’t that many numbers available,” laughed the 31-year-old. “As well as that, I wore 21 for Union Berlin, where I made my Bundesliga debut and had a good time on the whole.” It’s a number he wore throughout his time in the capital. “There’s no deeper meaning behind the number,” admitted the midfielder.
Home shirt to be worn in opening training session
Incidentally, Seimen and Prömel will be wearing their new jerseys for the start of pre-season training on Thursday afternoon.
