Dennis Seimen to start in goal

The young goalkeeper is set to make his Bundesliga debut at Paderborn. Head coach Sebastian Hoeneß also provided a fresh injury update ahead of Saturday’s game.

VfB Stuttgart return to action after the international break at newly promoted SC Paderborn on Saturday 10 October. The Bundesliga Matchday 5 encounter gets under way at 15:30 CEST.

Sebastian Hoeneß: ‘Seimen our new number one’

Goalkeeper Dennis Seimen is set to make his Bundesliga debut at Paderborn – the club where he enjoyed a season-long loan during the 2025/26 campaign. “We’ve already decided that Dennis will play,” Sebastian Hoeneß confirmed at Thursday’s pre-match press conference. “He’s our number one – that’s how we’ve gone into this season. Fabian Bredlow has done an outstanding job in recent games and will continue to be given playing time in future.”

Head coach Sebastian Hoeneß:

We’re going to need to be wide awake in Paderborn.

The VfB players are highly motivated ahead of the Matchday 5 trip to the Home Deluxe Arena, according to Hoeneß. “After a tough first few fixtures, we really want to get going and start the next phase of the season on a high,” continued the 44-year-old, who said his squad used the international break to work on their structure, fine-tune certain aspects of their game and improve across the board. Hoeneß’s charges have also been focusing on their upcoming opponents.

Personnel: Luca Jaquez available

“We’re going to need to be wide awake in Paderborn,” said the VfB boss. “They’re still on a high following promotion and beat Hoffenheim 3-1 recently.” Hoeneß added that Saturday’s hosts, who currently occupy 12th place in the table, have started the season with great determination and thoroughly deserved the four points they have on the board so far.

Seimen’s place in goal was not the only squad update on Thursday afternoon. Switzerland international Luca Jaquez has returned to training following injury and is in contention for a place in the matchday squad this weekend. Dan-Axel Zagadou, Tiago Tomás and Nikolas Nartey are back in light training but are not yet fit enough to return to action.

Justin Diehl and Ameen Al-Dakhil, meanwhile, have yet to return to training following injury.
