Looking back: Unbeaten last season
VfB avoided defeat in both meetings against Bremen in the 2025/26 season. After a 4-0 away win at the Weserstadion, the return fixture in Stuttgart finished 1-1.
Bundesliga history: Third most played fixture
VfB and Werder meet for the 115th time in the Bundesliga. Only the match-ups between FC Bayern München and Bremen (118) and Bayern and Borussia Mönchengladbach (116) have taken place more often in the history of the German top flight.
Demirovic vs. Füllkrug: Battle of in-form strikers
VfB striker Ermedin Demirovic has netted a brace in successive Bundesliga games for the first time. The only other Stuttgart player to ever do so in three consecutive Bundesliga matches is Serhou Guirassy in September 2023. Demirovic is also the Cannstatt club’s leading goalscorer in this calendar year with 14.
Meanwhile, Niclas Füllkrug has been back to his best since returning to Bremen on loan from West Ham United. The 33-year-old, who is now in his third spell with his boyhood club, leads the Bundesliga scoring chart with nine goals over the first eight matchdays.
Team in form: Bremen beaten just once
Werder are unbeaten in seven Bundesliga matches (W4, D3) – their longest run since the final eight games of the 2024/25 campaign. The 15 points collected in this period is the joint most in the league along with top two Bayern and Borussia Dortmund.
Personnel: Trio sidelined
It remains to be seen whether Atakan Karazor will be involved. The midfielder picked up a thigh injury in Tuesday night’s 2-0 defeat at Galatasaray in the UEFA Champions League. The head coach expects Grischa Prömel to be available for Saturday’s match and also confirmed that Dennis Seimen will start in goal.
Josha Vagnoman (hamstring), Angelo Stiller (adductor) and Leo Sauer (gluteal muscle) remain sidelined, while Dan-Axel Zagadou is still building up his fitness and is not yet available either.
