Sebastian Hoeneß can already feel the motivation. “We want to get the better of Werder, it’s a very important game for us,” said the head coach on Thursday. With this being the team’s final outing before the international period, the Cannstatt guys are even more determined going into the home match against Werder Bremen at the MHP Arena on Saturday 7 November (kick-off 18:30 CET).
Bremen in form
Werder will come to Stuttgart with plenty of confidence following a strong run of four wins, three draws and just one defeat from the first eight Bundesliga games of the season. With 15 points, Daniel Thioune’s side currently sit fifth in the table. Last time out, they beat TSG Hoffenheim 2-0 at home. “Bremen are the form team at the moment, they look very steady and have a lot of automatisms in their play,” acknowledged Hoeneß.
Head coach Sebastian Hoeneß:
We have to give everything we’ve got technically, physically and mentally.
“Against a team who are on such a roll, we’ll need a top performance,” he added. “We have to give everything we’ve got technically, physically and mentally. We want to build on the 4-2 win at Leverkusen and continue moving forward. It’s vital we keep going with this energy and intensity.”
Question mark over Karazor
It remains to be seen whether Atakan Karazor will be involved. The midfielder picked up a thigh injury in Tuesday night’s 2-0 defeat at Galatasaray in the UEFA Champions League. The head coach expects Grischa Prömel to be available for Saturday’s match and also confirmed that Dennis Seimen will start in goal.
Josha Vagnoman (hamstring), Angelo Stiller (adductor) and Leo Sauer (gluteal muscle) remain sidelined, while Dan-Axel Zagadou is still building up his fitness and is not yet available either.
