Midfielder Chema Andrés has left VfB to join English Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion with immediate effect. The 21-year-old had moved to Cannstatt from record Spanish champions Real Madrid before the start of the 2025/26 campaign.
Fabian Wohlgemuth, VfB board member for sport: “Chema settled in very quickly for a young player after moving to VfB from Spain. He played his part in helping us qualify for the Champions League and reach the cup final. He was recently given an opportunity to move to Brighton in the Premier League. From a sporting point of view, we’d have liked to keep Chema, but we also had to take into account the player’s desire to move. We made sure the transfer was conditional on certain financial terms being met – which they were – so we agreed to the deal going ahead. We thank Chema for his spell with us and wish him every success in England.”
Four goals, two assists for VfB
Chema made 39 appearances for VfB in the Bundesliga, DFB Cup and UEFA Europa League in his only season in Cannstatt, scoring four goals and setting up another two. The Spain U21 international featured in VfB’s DFB Cup tie at F.C. Hansa Rostock and their opening Bundesliga match at FC Bayern München earlier this season.
VfB thanks Chema for his efforts in Cannstatt and wish him all the best for the future.
