Hello, Flo! You’ve been at the club nine years now, having joined VfB’s Under-11s in 2017. What does VfB mean to you?
Florian Hellstern: “It’s like home to me. I was born in Bad Cannstatt and grew up in Stuttgart. I’ve been at VfB for nine years, and in that time the club has become like a second home. I’ve spent a lot of my life at the club centre, which is another reason why I’m so pleased about my contract extension.”
You’re still eligible to play for the Under-19s but have been the Under-21s’ first-choice goalkeeper in the 3. Liga since the start of the season. How do you assess your development?
Florian Hellstern: “To already be playing in the 3. Liga at my age is special. Not everyone has that privilege. That said, I know there are still a lot of areas I need to work on. I still have a lot of potential. That applies to all aspects of my goalkeeping.”
What are you aiming for next in your career?
Florian Hellstern: “I want to take things step by step and keep developing. There are a lot of things I want to achieve. One of those, of course, is playing for VfB at the MHP Arena at some point.”
