Florian Hellstern signs long-term contract

VfB have tied down the 18-year-old goalkeeper and academy product.

He may only be 18 years old, but Florian Hellstern already has a long relationship with VfB. Born in Bad Cannstatt, he has spent the last nine years working his way up from the U11s to the U21s. Now, the Germany U19 keeper has committed his future to VfB, signing a long-term extension with the club.

“Over the past few years, Florian Hellstern has progressed through our youth setup step by step, and has very much shown what he is capable of this season in the third division and in plenty of training sessions with the first team,” said VfB board member for sport Fabian Wohlgemuth. “Florian has the potential to develop into a top goalkeeper at the highest level over the coming years, and we are delighted that we will be part of that journey.”

“I’m really pleased with the contract extension,” said Hellstern. “VfB feels like home to me. I was born in Bad Cannstatt and grew up in Stuttgart. To be playing in the third division at my age is something special – not everyone gets that privilege. At the same time though, I’m well aware of the fact that I’ve still got plenty to work on.”
