Hamburger SV: Saturday’s opponents by numbers

Second-placed VfB go into Saturday’s game one point behind league leaders HSV in the table. We crunch the numbers on the Red Shorts ahead of the trip to the Volksparkstadion.

Hamburg head into the Matchday 11 encounter in first place, having lost only once in the league so far this season - at city rivals FC St. Pauli in September.

Daniel Heuer Fernandes joined HSV from Bundesliga 2 rivals Darmstadt 98 in the summer, replacing Julian Pollersbeck as number one goalkeeper. The 26-year-old has played every minute of Hamburg’s campaign this term and has kept five clean sheets so far - more than any other keeper in the division.

Summer signings Sonny Kittel (five goals, two assists) and Lukas Hinterseer (four goals, three assists) have both been directly involved in seven league goals this season. No other HSV player has contributed more goals and assists combined.

22:8

With a goal difference of +14 (22 scored, eight conceded), HSV boast the strongest attack and the meanest defence in the division after ten games.

33

In January, former Germany international Marcell Jansen was named HSV president at just 33 years old. With over 88,000 members, Hamburg are still among the biggest clubs in the country.

57,000

The 57,000-capacity Volksparkstadion is sold out for the first time this season on Saturday. On average, just under 46,000 fans have attended HSV’s five home games so far this term. Only VfB boast a higher average home attendance with over 51,000.
