VfB extend deal with Tayfun Korkut

VfB have extended the contracts with head coach Tayfun Korkut, as well as his assistant coaches Ilija Aracic and Steven Cherundolo, until June 30th, 2020.

The 44-year-old and his assistants took over their duties at VfB on January 30th this year and guided the team to seventh place in the table by the end of the campaign. Since Tayfun Korkut took charge, in 14 Bundesliga games, the Cannstatt Boys achieved a tally of nine wins, four draws and just one defeat – amounting to 31 points.

VfB Sporting Director Michael Reschke:
We have an excellent coaching team, spear-headed by Tayfun Korkut, and we are very happy to have been able to extend the deals with him and his assistant coaches Ilija Aracic and Steven Cherundolo earlier than anticipated, until 2020. The sporting success in recent months has been quite exceptional. But aside from that, the professionalism which the three have brought to the club, along with the harmony and ambitiousness within the team and amongst the staff, which they initiated, has proven equally important in our decision to continue our cooperation."

VfB head coach Tayfun Korkut:
The cooperation with those in charge at the club, as well as the team and the support staff, was completely trustful and characterised by the determination to prove sportingly successful from day one. The talks we held on extending our contracts took place in the very same context. It quickly became clear that we were eager to continue the successful sporting route of recent months together and we are highly motivated looking ahead to the future. I wish to thank the club board, around president Wolfgang Dietrich and Sporting director Michael Reschke, for the trust they have placed in my co-trainers and I by extending our contracts."
