VfB begin preparations with performance tests

In high spirits and extremely motivated, the VfB pros returned from their summer break. On Monday, the Cannstatt Boys undertook the obligatory performance tests.

Captain Christian Gentner, Timo Baumgartl and Jens Grahl were the first on the tread-mills on Monday morning, closely followed by Dennis Aogo, Chadrac Akolo and Anastasios Donis. Andreas Beck also underwent the performance-diagnosis and begins preparations for the coming season just eleven weeks after tearing the cruciate ligament in his right knee.

New signings on the training grounds this Tuesday

Gonzalo Castro (Borussia Dortmund) and Daniel Didavi (VfL Wolfsburg), who were both presented as new VfB signings last Friday, will participate in their first official training session with the Cannstatt Boys on Tuesday morning at 10:00 CEST. Both undertook their performance tests last week as part of their obligatory medical checks.

Further new-signings Marc-Oliver Kempf (SC Freiburg), David Kopacz (Borussia Dortmund), Pablo Maffeo (Manchester City) and Borna Sosa (Dinamo Zagreb) take to the training grounds at the 'VfB Clubzentrum' for the first time on Tuesday. The official training-start, including the presentation of the new away kit, will take place on Saturday, July 7th.

Marcin Kaminski, Mario Gomez and Benjamin Pavard are initially unavailable to VfB head coach Tayfun Korkut. Kaminski was on duty with the Polish national team until shortly before the start of the World Cup finals. The Pole narrowly missed out on the finals in Russia and, just like Gomez following Germany’s exit, is currently on holiday.

For Pavard, the tournament continues, following his stunning goal in the 4-3 'Round of 16' win over Argentina, until at least Friday, July 6th. At the quarter-final stage, the VfB defender and the French national team clash with Uruguay (kick-off 16:00 CEST).
