Nine off on international duty

Jürgen Klopp has announced his first squad as Germany head coach. VfB defender Finn Jeltsch has received his first senior call-up, while full-backs Maximilian Mittelstädt and Josha Vagnoman as well as winger Chris Führich have all been included in the 44-man group for Germany’s upcoming fixtures.

Twenty-four of the 44 players – including Vagnoman and Führich – have been selected for Germany’s first two Nations League games, away to Netherlands and at home to Greece.

The remaining 20 players will then link up with the squad for the home clash with Serbia and the trip to Greece, with the majority of the initial 24-man group returning to their respective clubs. Jeltsch and Mittelstädt are both part of Klopp’s ‘second’ squad.

Four UEFA Nations League encounters

Germany play four games in League A, Group 2 of the UEFA Nations League in late September and early October, starting with a trip to Amsterdam to face Netherlands on Thursday 24 September. Klopp’s charges then host Greece in Augsburg on Sunday 27 September before playing Serbia in Munich four days later, on Thursday 1 October. Germany round off a busy few days of international fixtures in Thessaloniki, where they take on Greece again on Sunday 4 October. All four games kick off at 20:45 CEST. 

Leo Sauer (Slovakia), Bilal El Khannouss (Morocco), Ermedin Demirovic (Bosnia and Herzegovina), Dzenan Pejcinovic (Germany U21) and Yanik Spalt (Austria U21) are also on international duty.
