Kane scores for Bayern
VfB initially struggled to cope with Bayern’s swift interplay at the MHP Arena, where the visitors dominated the early stages and took the lead through Harry Kane in the 18th minute following a defensive mistake.
Chances for VfB
VfB responded by increasing the tempo and they soon carved out their first clear-cut opening of the game, only for Josha Vagnoman to be thwarted by Manuel Neuer. The Bayern goalkeeper frustrated Sebastian Hoeneß’s men once more just 60 seconds later, this time preventing Nick Woltemade from equalising.
The game developed into an intense battle, with Bayern marginally on top and taking a 1-0 lead into the break.
Undav free-kick
Deniz Undav had the first opportunity of the second half but his free-kick in the 50th minute narrowly missed the target. Bayern continued to cover a lot of ground, though, and prevented Hoeneß’s side from creating further openings.
Bredlow denies Kane
At the other end of the pitch, Bayern nearly doubled their advantage when a Michael Olise pass found Kane in front of goal, but Fabian Bredlow produced an outstanding save to keep the ball out.
Woltemade and Leweling go close
As the match entered the closing stages, Woltemade steered a header from a Maxi Mittelstädt cross just over the bar (73’) and Jamie Leweling saw a deflected long-range strike saved by Neuer just two minutes later.
Diaz on target, Leweling replies
With VfB pushing for an equaliser, Bayern landed the sucker punch on the counter as Luis Diaz headed them 2-0 up. Leweling found the target in stoppage time (90’+3) but the home side were unable to score again in a frenetic finale.

18th minute: Luca Jaquez’s attempted clearance lands at the feet of Kane, who drills a low shot into the bottom left-hand corner from just inside the penalty area.
77th minute: Serge Gnabry delivers a cross into the VfB box and finds Diaz, who heads in the decisive goal.
90th + 3 minute: Chema flicks on a throw-in to Leweling, who reduces the deficit with a close-range header.
