“Played really well in the league phase”

Sebastian Hoeneß assesses the 3-2 home win over Young Boys and the league phase as a whole, while Jamie Leweling and Ermedin Demirovic also gave their thoughts.

Head coach Sebastian Hoeneß: “That was a crazy match. The opening 30 minutes were just as you’d plan it – it was fun to watch the lads play, and the only criticism is that we didn’t score more goals than we did during this period. Then we conceded and suddenly the match was wide open again. As full time got nearer, it was end-to-end stuff but we managed to come away with the win. Overall, we played really well in the league phase, which means that we can go into the play-offs and the next matches with confidence. We’ll all be excited to follow the draw on Friday. The team has acquitted itself well in a lot of aspects on the European stage and that’s something we want to build on.”

Jamie Leweling: “After we went 2-0 up, we were far too easy for our opponents, and that’s annoying. Young Boys obviously have plenty of quality, and they showed that. We clearly were a bit complacent, so it was all the more important for us to react to the scoreline and put the effort in that we did, and that meant that we could get the result back in our favour. We’re now going into the play-offs full of confidence and we’ll be looking to get through again and make it into the round of 16.”

Ermedin Demirovic: “We made life difficult for ourselves. We had full control of the match for 30, 35 minutes, we were playing really well and everything was going according to plan. Young Boys put up a real fight and got themselves back into it, and we only had ourselves to blame for not putting the match out of reach earlier than we did.”
