Head coach Sebastian Hoeneß: “Congratulations to Porto on reaching the quarter-finals. We’ve had two high-quality games. The more clinical side has progressed to the next round. The fact that we created better chances isn’t reflected in the result, which is hard to take. My team played very well. We exit the competition with our heads held high. We had a lot of good games, but we met our match in Porto.”
Atakan Karazor: “We just couldn’t put the ball in the net, which is exactly what Porto did better than us. That was the difference. Still, I’m proud of our journey in the UEFA Europa League – and a big thank you to our fans for supporting us everywhere, whether we were at home or away. We now need to do all we can to finish as high as possible in the league and qualify for Europe again.”
Deniz Undav: “Being knocked out like this is very tough. On the one hand, we can be proud of going completely toe-to-toe with a team as strong as Porto over two legs. On the other, it hurts a lot that we didn’t get more out of it. We failed to make the most of our goalscoring opportunities and Diogo Costa did magnificently in the Porto goal. Porto scored and we didn’t, unfortunately. That was the difference in this last-16 tie.”
