“Special for the city, club and fans”

Head coach Sebastian Hoeneß, Angelo Stiller and Nick Woltemade share their relief and delight after the 3-1 DFB Cup semi-final win over RB Leipzig.

Head coach Sebastian Hoeneß: “We’ve fulfilled a little dream of ours tonight. We’re obviously incredibly happy to have reached the final. The support from the stands was incredible and carried us through. I’d like to single out Alexander Nübel today, who was fantastic in goal. I thought we were more solid and in control of things in the second half. Our second goal came at a good time. Unfortunately, we conceded too quickly again not long afterwards, which is something we need to work on. The players dusted themselves off and reacted brilliantly. I’m very proud of the team, their performance and our progression to the final.”

Angelo Stiller: “We’re going to Berlin, which sounds incredible. It’s something we’ve been working towards. [The opener] was by far the best goal I’ve scored. We’re delighted to have won the game and reached the final, particularly after a tricky last couple of weeks. Reaching the final is special – for the city, the club and the fans.”

Nick Woltemade: “It’s one of the best moments of my career. We’re delighted to have won the semi-final. It was hard work. We threw ourselves in front of every ball, which was hugely important – particularly after the past few weeks. We’re not even thinking about the final yet, but one thing’s clear – we’re going to Berlin to win the final. We need to be wary of Bielefeld. Their cup run commands great respect, and all their players can play football.”
