Hard-fought win over Heidenheim

VfB Stuttgart deservedly won 1-0 at home to 1. FC Heidenheim thanks to a goal from Bilal El Khannouss.

Match summary

Sebastian Hoeneß’s side had more of the game throughout and created the first good opportunity in the sixth minute, when the ball came to Badredine Bouanani in the box from a throw-in, but he narrowly missed the target from a tight angle.

Nübel saves

Heidenheim kept it tight in defence and did pose an occasional threat on the counter. Mikkel Kaufmann tested Alexander Nübel’s reflexes with a powerful shot in the 20th minute.

Chabot lets rip

With few openings in the penalty area for VfB, Jeff Chabot had a go with a powerful long-distance shot, but Diant Ramaj got down to his right corner in time. After Kaufmann aimed too high for the visitors shortly before the break, the two sides went in goalless at half-time.

Bouanani dribbles

VfB had the first big chance of the second half in the 56th minute, Bouanani dribbling into the penalty area but dragging his shot wide. Soon after that, Chabot also missed the target with a long-range effort.

El Khannouss strikes

Stuttgart then increased the tempo significantly and were rewarded in the 65th minute, when Bilal El Khannouss broke the deadlock with a placed shot from the edge of the box into the right corner.

Deserved win

The narrow home win was ultimately deserved, particularly given the improvement in performance in the second half. Hoeneß’s side were rewarded for their effort and determination with the three points.

Up to fourth

The result moves VfB up to fourth place in the Bundesliga after Matchday 6.

Matchday 6: VfB - 1. FC Heidenheim

Goals

65th minute: El Khannouss shoots low from 18 metres and the ball bounces off the inside of the right post and over the line.
