Head coach Sebastian Hoeneß: “The game started in the worst possible way, but the boys showed a great reaction immediately. The quick equaliser increased our belief that there was something in it for us. We were brave, attacked them early and had a good attitude. We kept creating chances, while not allowing Bayer Leverkusen many – it was a top defensive performance, which was key to the win. Now we have a ‘final’ in a week’s time, on Matchday 34. We’re looking forward to it.”
Deniz Undav: “It was a tiring, very intense game. We knew that Leverkusen are a top side, but we had the control in a lot of phases. Our performance – at least after the early goal we conceded – was really good. It was a very important match and we showed how much we wanted to win it. Now it’s about leaving everything on the pitch for 90 minutes again in Frankfurt.”
Ermedin Demirovic: “It was an unfortunate start to the match. It was a blow to fall behind so early, but we showed incredible team spirit once again and got the equaliser. The energy was really good; we were positive and totally focussed. At times we were free-flowing. It felt good on the pitch. It was without doubt a really important win.”
