Head coach Sebastian Hoeneß: “It was a back-and-forth game. Leipzig had the better chances to begin with, then we had our openings. We had a team on the pitch who really fought – it wasn’t about winning prizes for beautiful football, but about digging in and grinding out the result. I want to highlight that spirit, it was incredible. The manner of the performance was one of the keys to victory.”
Deniz Undav: “We’re pleased to have won against one of our direct rivals, but it’s still ‘only’ three points. We have a tough schedule ahead and have to keep going at full throttle. The win is deserved; it was a top team performance against top opponents. Our energy on the pitch was very good and the desire of every individual was top-class. What the fans produced in the stands was unbelievable. Together we’ll now turn our attention to the game in Porto.”
Ramon Hendriks: “It was terrific – a remarkable performance from us with a brilliant result. It’s a big win for the table, for the confidence and for the form. It was a real battle with Leipzig, neither side gifted anything. We all threw ourselves into every tackle – and the fans carried us.”
