Match summary
Frankfurt strike first
Sebastian Hoeneß’s side fell behind to a Rasmus Kristiansen header after just five minutes, and then initially struggled to fashion real chances against a compact and aggressive Frankfurt defence.
Equaliser from Demirovic
They were given a helping hand in the 27th minute, when Eintracht goalkeeper Kaua Santos dropped a cross from Maximilian Mittelstädt at the feet of Ermedin Demirovic, who reacted fast and scored the important equaliser.
Undav puts VfB ahead
VfB were in the ascendancy now and kept their foot on the throttle. The hosts were rewarded in the 35th minute as Deniz Undav’s tenth Bundesliga goal of the season gave them a deserved 2-1 lead going into half-time.
Chances go begging
The crowd at the MHP Arena saw plenty of chances at both ends in the second half. Undav (50’) and Chris Führich (57’) both missed the opportunity to score a third goal for VfB, while a volley from Eintracht’s Ansgar Knauff struck the crossbar from 16 metres (58’).
In the 60th minute, Undav went close again with a shot from 13 metres, before the VfB striker was denied one-on-one by Kaua Santos after being played in by Führich.
Amaimouni-Echghouyab stuns VfB
VfB were punished for not taking those chances on 80 minutes, when Ayoube Amaimouni-Echghouyab equalised soon after coming on. Three minutes later, Undav had another effort saved by the Eintracht keeper, but substitute Nikolas Nartey had the last word and netted the winner for VfB in the 87th minute with his first Bundesliga goal.
Goals
5th minute: From a corner, Kristensen gets in front of Josha Vagnoman and flicks a looping header into the far corner to give the visitors an early lead.
27th minute: Santos fails to hold a cross from Mittelstädt, Demirovic reacts quickest and sweeps in the equaliser.
35th minute: Vagnoman plays a perfect ball into Undav in the penalty area. The VfB striker turns neatly away from Oscar Höjlund and then finds the left corner with a low shot to put Stuttgart in front.
80th minute: Amaimouni-Echghouyab is fed in the penalty area and levels the score with a low shot into the left corner.
87th minute: Vagnoman delivers a perfectly weighted low pass from the right into the middle, where Nartey pokes the ball in from five metres.
