“It was a weight off my mind”

Nick Woltemade discusses his missed penalty and winning goal, while Alexander Nübel and Sebastian Hoeneß also give their assessment of the match.

Head coach Sebastian Hoeneß: “The early part of the match was open and produced chances at both ends. I thought it was a positive team performance with some good opportunities, but I would’ve liked us to go into the break with a lead. The missed penalty stirred up the atmosphere in the stadium, but we continued to create promising chances and scored the goal at the end. In recent weeks we’ve often come away with nothing in terms of the result, so this time we’re glad and proud of what was overall a deserved away win.”

Alexander Nübel: “I’m very happy that we’ve won here. A lot happened in the game, they had a high intensity and the atmosphere played a part in that. The whole team gave everything they had until the end today and believed that we could score the winning goal – even better that it came off shortly before the end. I’d like to praise my goalkeeping counterpart from St. Pauli, who turned in an excellent performance with his saves.”

Nick Woltemade: “It was such a weight off my mind when I hit the back of the net just before the end. I missed a few chances during the match, including the penalty unfortunately, which is always frustrating and hurts the team in those moments. We gave a decent to good performance overall and created a lot of chances, as well as keeping a clean sheet at the back. To travel home with three points today is just good for us and gives us more strength in this crucial phase of the season.”
