Three points against Augsburg

VfB Stuttgart took advantage of an early red card to win 4-0 at home to FC Augsburg.

Match summary

The sellout crowd at the MHP Arena witnessed a lively beginning to the contest, with Jamie Leweling striking the bar with a volley in the third minute. Five minutes later, Atakan Karazor did even better with a rebound to make it 1-0 to VfB.

Red for Essende

Soon after that, Samuel Essende received a red card for a late foul on Angelo Stiller, who subsequently had to be brought off. With the extra man, Sebastian Hoeneß’s men took charge of the game but Augsburg defended well, limiting Stuttgart’s chances.

Chances for Woltemade and Millot

In the space of 60 seconds, Nick Woltemade with a header and Enzo Millot with a long-distance shot were both denied by goalkeeper Finn Dahmen, leaving the score at 1-0 at half-time.

Woltemade scores

Woltemade proved his class again in the 51st minute, when he found the left corner under pressure from 14 metres. The hosts continued to dictate proceedings, and Pascal Stenzel was unlucky in the 58th minute, when his great effort from distance was pushed away by Dahmen. Augsburg’s 10 men were unable to get back in the game, and when Millot (80’) and Ermedin Demirovic (88’) extended the lead to 4-0, it was game over.

Goals

8th minute: Leweling’s first-time finish is saved by Dahmen but the rebound falls for Karazor, who bundles the ball over the line.

51st minute: Woltemade receives the ball from Deniz Undav on the edge of the penalty box and buries the ball into the left corner with a great shot.

80th minute: Phillip Tietz plays the ball straight to Millot in an attempt to clear and then the VfB midfielder fires an unstoppable drive into the left corner from 15 metres.

88th minute: Chris Führich crosses into the middle and substitute Demirovic is there to head in the fourth and final goal.
