VfB head coach Pellegrino Matarazzo: “We’ll happily take a point from this match, even though we know we could have got more out of it. In the second half we were totally dominant and came very close to winning. We often got it as far as Schalke’s back line but we seemed to be lacking in precision when it came to the final ball. We’ll take the positives from this match but at the same time we know what we need to work on. What we have to do now is carry on picking up points in the forthcoming matches.”
Gonzalo Castro: “Before we went 1-0 down we had one or two very good chances, only to go and let a silly goal in. You can see the team’s mentality though – we’ve got a young group that never gives up. We knew that we’d carve out chances, and after the break we made the most of one of them to equalise. Based on our second-half performance, I think we deserved more than just a point out of the game.”
Mateo Klimowicz: “We played well and deserved to take all three points. On some of our attacks though, we didn’t make the right choices and couldn’t take our chances. A point away to Schalke though is a decent return overall.”
