VfB head coach Tayfun Korkut made just one change to the eleven that began the game against SC Freiburg, with Chadrac Akolo getting the nod ahead of Dennis Aogo from the outset. Borna Sosa (back injury), Marc Oliver Kempf (thigh muscle-sinew tear) and Daniel Didavi (Achilles tendon) all missed out on the tie.

The first attempts on goal are registered by Gonzalo Castro, with a free-kick on the left (7th minute) and Mario Gomez, with a shot from distance (8'). The first effort landed in the arms of Fortuna keeper Michael Rensing, whilst Mario Gomez turned his shot over the bar. As the half progresses, Düsseldorf seek their fortunes on the attack. The result is not satisfying. At home, we naturally always want to hang onto all three points, but the way the game went tonight didn’t allow for that.
Summed-up
It was a game determined by both defensive blocks, with neither side really allowing their opponents to create anything of a genuine threat over the course of the ninety minutes – least of all from open play. On the whole, the share of the spoils was a justified outcome, although the visitors did have the better of the opportunities in the second-half.
