Post-match comments

Following the home win over Wolfsburg, the protagonist’s joy at the victory was tarnished by the serious injury to Christian Gentner.

VfB head-coach Hannes Wolf: "The game was overshadowed by the situation with Christian Gentner, who suffered a serious concussion and possibly a couple of broken bones. We are all in shock after that and are all thinking of our captain right now. We hope to have him back again fit and healthy soon. Aside from that, I am very proud of my team and the manner in which they played the game today. We knew we would have to be at 100% in every area of the park - which the lads were. Santiago Ascacibar played very well. He gave his all on the attack as well as defensively and won a lot of challenges."

Dennis Aogo: "In retrospect I am very sad – my thoughts are above all on Gente’s health. I wish him all the best. I hope there is nothing lasting which comes from it and that he is back with us soon. The way the fans reacted to every single ball we won was quite exceptional. It was a very special feeling to hang on to the 1-0 with just ten men, following the injury to Gente. It’s an important element psychologically to go into such a busy week on the back of a win."

Ron-Robert Zieler: "The situation with Christian Gentner was a brutal scene. I hope it’s not too bad and wish him all the very best. Today’s win was hard-fought and fantastic for the moral. In the first-half we played very well – on the attack too. In the second period we defended more. It’s good to be starting this busy week with three points."
