U17s win German championship!

Daniel Jungwirth’s team defeat TSG Hoffenheim 3-2 in the German U17 championship final to deservedly claim the title.

The dream has come true – VfB are German U17 champions again for the first time since 2013. Malik Mosrati, William Recupero and Konstantinos Karangelis scored for the boys from Cannstatt in a 3-2 victory over TSG Hoffenheim in the final.

The title is the eighth U17 crown in VfB’s history, moving the club level once again with record-holders Borussia Dortmund.

First half: VfB in front at the break

VfB took the lead in the 27th minute after a perfectly timed forward pass from Tom Brenner found Mosrati, who wasted no time in burying the ball into the top right-hand corner, sparking wild celebrations.

Five minutes before the break, Nevio Zumpano missed a near-certain equaliser after rounding Tom Walz in the Stuttgart goal, only for an outstanding tackle from Almand Idrizi to prevent the leveller at the last moment.

Second half: VfB respond well to setback

The start of the second period did not go according to plan for VfB, as Hoffenheim equalised in the 50th minute through Julian Graf. However, Daniel Jungwirth’s charges regained the lead just two minutes later when Kian Speidel passed to William Recupero on the left. He skipped past Graf and finished from a tight angle to put VfB 2-1 in front.

The game remained an open, entertaining encounter. The host equalised once again through Samuel Passariello, but Karangelis netted the decisive goal for VfB in the 79th minute to seal a 3-2 win which secured the U17 German championship.

Lengthy unbeaten run

Victory in the final marked the U17 side’s 28th consecutive game without defeat, with the team scoring 23 goals across the four final matches alone.

“My boys have made me proud throughout the entire season – with their run of results and with the way they performed in the final as well,” said Jungwirth after the match.
