The VfB U16s will be competing in the international Generation adidas Cup in Bradenton, Florida in April. The tournament, which will be held at the IMG Academy campus, begins on 12 April and ends on Easter Sunday, 20 April.
The 16th edition of the nine-day tournament – one of the biggest in the USA – again features a top-class field, with 29 of the current 30 MLS clubs – plus wildcard teams Tampa Bay United from Florida and Barca Residency Academy from Arizona – entering with their U16 sides. In addition to VfB, eight other top international clubs are taking part in FC Bayern Munich, Ulsan HD (South Korea), PSV Eindhoven (Netherlands), KRC Genk (Belgium), Toulouse (France), FC Tokyo (Japan), Deportivo Toluca FC and Club America (both Mexico).
Daniel Teufel, sporting director for the U16 to U21 age groups at the VfB academy, said: “We’re pleased to be taking part in one of the best U16 tournaments in the world. International comparisons with top teams from other nations are an important part of our youth development programme, and challenge our players in both their sporting and personal development. It’s also important to us that the players gain an insight into different countries, and thus familiarise themselves with different lifestyles and cultures.”
