Hi Leo, a very warm welcome to VfB. What were your first thoughts after signing your contract?
Leo Sauer: “It feels great to be part of such a prestigious club now. VfB has a huge profile, a rich tradition and a massive fanbase. I can’t wait to get to know my new team-mates and to play my first game for my new club. My aim is to be as successful as possible with VfB in all three competitions.”
You mentioned VfB’s incredible supporters. What memories do you have of playing at the MHP Arena with Feyenoord in the Europa League on 6 November 2025?
Sauer: “I remember the atmosphere clearly. It was loud and it was special. That’s what football’s all about. I like atmospheres like that. It was a real wow moment for me, and I’m all the more excited to experience it on a regular basis now.”
How would you describe your playing style?
Sauer: “I want to help the team. I’m a quick player and I enjoy one-on-ones. I also want to bring my mentality to the team. I’m someone who’s always focused on what’s ahead.”
Do you already know any players in the VfB squad?
Sauer: “Yes, I know Ramon Hendriks as we played together in Rotterdam. I’m looking forward to seeing him again. I want to get to know all of my new team-mates quickly, to get familiar with the patterns of play at VfB and be out on the pitch with the boys.”
