“Well prepared and with full power”

The floodlights will be on at the MHP Arena for the second time this week as VfB host Borussia Mönchengladbach on Friday night. One player has been added to the injury list.

Mönchengladbach at home will bring back memories of last season, when VfB celebrated 100 years of the Brustring against Borussia and triumphed 1-0. The next clash with the current bottom club in the Bundesliga kicks off at 20:30 CEST on Friday 23 October.

Hoeneß looking forward to ‘brilliant atmosphere’

“We’re looking forward to the second game under the lights in the space of four days, and what will certainly be another brilliant atmosphere at the MHP Arena,” said Sebastian Hoeneß in his pre-match press conference on Thursday. The head coach knows full well how loudly and passionately the fans in white and red supported the team in Tuesday’s 1-1 draw against Atletico Madrid in the UEFA Champions League. That leaves the Cannstatt side even keener to be celebrating a win on home turf this time.

Head coach Sebastian Hoeneß:

We’re going into the meeting with Borussia Mönchengladbach well prepared and with full power.

“We’re going into the meeting with Borussia Mönchengladbach well prepared and with full power, and want to deliver the best performance we can with the support of our fans tomorrow night,” added the 44-year-old. The Foals travel to Stuttgart in 18th place in the table having lost all six games so far, but Hoeneß is expecting them to offer plenty of resistance. Gladbach lost by just the one goal in their two most recent outings against TSG Hoffenheim and 1. FC Köln (both 2-1).

Vagnoman ruled out

There’s one update on the personnel front: Josha Vagnoman suffered a hamstring injury against Atleti on Tuesday and is sidelined for the time being. Nikolas Nartey is also unavailable due to a muscular issue, while Tiago Tomás, Justin Diehl and Dan-Axel Zagadou are still building up their fitness in training.
