Having been out due to injury since the cup tie in Rostock on 21 August, Nikolas Nartey made his comeback against Borussia Dortmund. In an interview, the midfielder spoke about getting back on the pitch, the two friendlies that are coming up and then the subsequent return to league action.
Hello Niko. It was good to see you back against Dortmund. How did it feel when you knew you were coming on as a substitute?
Nikolas Nartey: “It was great to be getting some game time at last and to be back on the pitch. Having said that, I’d obviously have preferred a different result.”
VfB-Profi Nikolas Nartey:
These friendlies have come just at the right time for me. They’ll give me the chance to get some more playing time in my legs after making my comeback, and try to find a bit of form and rhythm.
Over the next few days, the club will be playing a couple of friendlies. How do you see yourself being involved?
Nartey: “These friendlies have come just at the right time for me. They’ll give me the chance to get some more playing time in my legs after making my comeback, and try to find a bit of form and rhythm.”
After the international break, the team returns to Bundesliga action with a trip to Paderborn and then a UEFA Champions League clash away to Bratislava. How are you approaching these two matches?
Nartey: “I’m well up for both of them. At the moment, the focus is on Paderborn, where we’ll absolutely be looking to get the three points. Then comes the Champions League, and I can’t wait for that. It’ll be a chance for me to make my debut in the competition, if that comes about, and that would obviously be something special. We’ve got our European campaign off to a good start and we want to build on that.”
