Loan move for Florian Hellstern

The 18-year-old goalkeeper will spend the season at Bundesliga 2 club Greuther Fürth.

After signing a long-term extension to his VfB contract at the end of April, homegrown goalkeeper Florian Hellstern will spend the 2026/27 campaign on loan at Bundesliga 2 outfit SpVgg Greuther Fürth. The 18-year-old, who first joined VfB as an U11 player, made 26 appearances for the U21s in the 3. Liga last term and was part of the side that won the DFB Youth Cup in mid-May.

Before joining Fürth for their pre-season preparations, Hellstern is set to represent Germany at the European Under-19 Championship in Wales later this summer.

‘An exceptionally talented goalkeeper’

Fabian Wohlgemuth, VfB’s board member for sport, said: “Florian has developed brilliantly over the past few years. After delivering highly promising performances with the U19s in the (UEFA) Youth League and the DFB Youth League, he showed with our U21s in the 3. Liga last season that he’s an exceptionally talented goalkeeper.

“The loan move to Greuther Fürth in Bundesliga 2 offers him the ideal place to take the next steps in his career in an ambitious environment. We wish Florian and Spielvereinigung Greuther Fürth a successful season and will follow Florian’s performances closely.”

VfB wishes Florian Hellstern every success for the 2026/27 season.
