VfB sign Grischa Prömel

The midfielder joins VfB Stuttgart from TSG Hoffenheim on a contract until 30 June 2029.

VfB Stuttgart have made their first signing ahead of the 2026/27 season after securing the services of Grischa Prömel from TSG Hoffenheim. The 31-year-old midfielder, who was born in Stuttgart, has put pen to paper on a contract through to 30 June 2029.

Grischa Prömel: “The desire to one day join VfB is one I’ve had for quite some time. I was born in Cannstatt, grew up in Esslingen and have always followed VfB over the years. In a way, it’s a dream come true for me and I’m excited to be wearing the Brustring from next season onwards. VfB have built incredible momentum in recent years and are known for their attractive style of play. Seeing where the club is now is impressive, and it feels great to become a part of that journey.”

Fabian Wohlgemuth, VfB’s board member for sport: “We’re really pleased to have signed Grischa Prömel. Grischa is an outstanding footballer, is incredibly ambitious and has gained a lot of valuable experience in recent years. That combination makes him a priceless addition, particularly as he hails from the region and therefore has a strong affinity with VfB.”

Bundesliga bow at Union Berlin

Prömel started his footballing career in the youth teams of TSV Esslingen and Stuttgarter Kickers before spells with Hoffenheim and Karlsruher SC. He made his Bundesliga debut – aged 24 years and seven months – for 1. FC Union Berlin, for whom he registered 20 goals and ten assists in 141 appearances across all competitions between 2017 and 2022. He went on to play 87 first-team games for Hoffenheim after returning to the club in 2023, hitting 14 goals and eight assists.

The central midfielder won 18 caps for Germany at youth level and was part of the side that won silver at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
