After exactly 425 days with VfB, Nick Woltemade is setting off on a new chapter in his career. The forward, who had a contract at the Cannstatt club until 30 June 2028, has now penned a deal with English Premier League side Newcastle United.
Alexander Wehrle, CEO of VfB Stuttgart: “For most of this transfer window we were opposed to a transfer for Nick, but the conditions ended up changing very significantly in a short period of time, and as such we are now able to agree to a sale in a way that – for all Nick’s value on the pitch – respects our overall responsibility towards VfB Stuttgart. We would like to thank Nick for his time with the club and wish him all the very best for the rest of his career.”
Fabian Wohlgemuth, VfB board member for sport: “Nick’s development last season was exceptional. The cup win, making the final of the EURO U21s and his call-up for the full national team were significant steps in his career, which aroused a great deal of interest from other clubs. For sporting reasons, we were against selling Nick for much of this summer, but the financial side of things combined with Nick’s pressing desire for this move led to a reconsideration of our position. We would like to wish Nick every success for the future and thank him for his efforts in the VfB shirt.”
In his farewell message, Woltemade said: “I felt right at home at VfB right from day one and I will always have fond memories of my time in Stuttgart. Winning the DFB Cup was an unbelievable experience and one that I will never forget. It was fantastic to get to wear the VfB jersey and to play in front of such incredible fans. I wish VfB all the very best for the future – thanks for everything!”
Woltemade joined VfB in summer 2024 on a free transfer from SV Werder Bremen and went on to make 36 appearances for the club in all competitions, scoring 18 goals and assisting on three more. The 23-year-old was Stuttgart’s top goalscorer in the 2024/25 DFB Cup campaign with five goals and was an integral part in the team winning the trophy. During his time with VfB, Woltemade also made the step up to international level, making his senior debut for Germany in June this year.
