The draw for the Europa League play-offs took place at UEFA headquarters in Nyon on Friday lunchtime, confirming Scottish club Celtic as VfB’s opponents.
“Celtic are an illustrious name”
Fabian Wohlgemuth, VfB board member for sport, gave his reaction: “Celtic are an illustrious name in European football. We know we’ll need top performances in both games against Celtic to get through. At the same time, of course, our ambition is to progress to the next round. It could certainly be an advantage that we’re at home in the second leg. The support of our fans was a big factor in us winning all our home matches in the league phase.”
Two legs within a week
The first leg of the play-off will be held on Thursday 19 February, 21:00 CET in Glasgow, with the return match a week later in Stuttgart on Thursday 26 February, 18:45 CET. The eight play-off winners advance to the round of 16, the draw for which will take place on Friday 27 February.
