VfB Stuttgart were paired with Portuguese outfit FC Porto in the draw for the last 16 of the UEFA Europa League, which took place at 13:00 CET on Friday afternoon.
“A big challenge”
Fabian Wohlgemuth, VfB’s board member for sport, said: “For VfB, it’s great to be back in the last 16 of a European competition for the first time in 13 years. We’re really looking forward to the games against FC Porto. We’re facing a side who qualified automatically for the round of 16 after finishing fifth in the league phase, and who are top of the Portuguese league too. A big challenge lies in store, but we’re looking forward to it with respect, confidence and great excitement.”
First and second legs only a week apart
The first leg on Thursday 12 March will take place at VfB’s MHP Arena, with the return game being held on either Wednesday 18 March or Thursday 19 March.
If VfB progress to the quarter-finals, they will face either English outfit Nottingham Forest or Danish club FC Midtjylland.
