“Be decisive”

Hot on the heels of their home win against Maccabi Tel Aviv in the UEFA Europa League, VfB travel to Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga on Sunday evening.

After picking up another three points in the UEFA Europa League, VfB will be looking to do the same in the Bundesliga when they bring Matchday 14 to a close away to SV Werder Bremen on Sunday evening (kick-off at the Weserstadion: 19:30 CET).

Werder solid at home

“After getting that important win against Maccabi Tel Aviv, our full focus is now back on the Bundesliga,” said Sebastian Hoeneß ahead of his team’s clash with the Green-Whites, which will be the 113th meeting between the two sides in the Bundesliga. Familiarity will not be breeding contempt, however. “Matches in the Weserstadion always pose a particular challenge,” the head coach said, “and Bremen are unbeaten at home in their last four.”

Under Horst Steffen, who took over last summer when Ole Werner moved to Leipzig, the team have won three of their last five at home, although they did slip to defeat last week in a hotly contested northern derby at Hamburger SV (3-2). The Cannstatt boys, meanwhile, will be hoping to pick up where they left off on Thursday evening. “For Sunday’s match against Werder Bremen, we want the team to come out and be decisive, and combine intensity with enjoyment,” Hoeneß said. “That should give us a positive result and put us in a decent position.”
