“Tough, but it comes with the territory”

Spiroergometry is arguably the toughest section of performance diagnostics - Luca Jaquez and Ramon Hendriks successfully completed it.

The second day of VfB’s performance tests pushed the players to their limit, particularly when it came to the spiroergometric evaluation, which presents one of the most challenging sections of modern-day performance testing. How does the body respond to extreme strain? And how fast can the players run? All of this ahead of the first public training session of the summer on Wednesday. “Spiroergometry is tough, but it just comes with the territory,” said Dutch defender Ramon Hendriks.

The speed on the treadmill is increased every three minutes, meaning the players must maintain that pace for those three minutes. “Everyone’s really curious about the results in the changing room afterwards,” said Swiss defender Luca Jaquez. “Everybody asks each other which level they got up to. You have to give it everything you’ve got.”

1,000 fans expected on Wednesday

VfB officially kick off pre-season on Wednesday, when they take to the field for their first training session ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.

Session to be streamed live on VfB TV
The training session will be streamed live on VfB TV, giving fans who are unable to attend the opportunity to follow the action online.
