Training is in full swing this week and the players are raring to go. On Tuesday morning, four days before the clash against Bayern Munich in the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup, Sebastian Hoeneß and his red-and-white squad kicked off preparations for the season’s first competitive match.
Among them was Luca Jaquez, who played a little over 80 minutes in VfB’s final friendly against Bologna last Saturday. Ahead of his first full season with VfB, the defender reflected on an eventful first six months in Bad Cannstatt.
“Everything happened very quickly, but I settled in well and was able to gain experience in different competitions early on,” he said. “Winning the DFB Cup final was of course the absolute highlight and made my first six months very successful.”
Now, the new campaign is just around the corner for Jaquez and his team-mates. “We’ve trained hard in recent weeks and prepared ourselves well,” said the Swiss defender. “We can take a lot of lessons from the game against Bologna, even if the result wasn’t what we had hoped for. You can really feel the excitement among all of us about the season starting again.”
Commenting on the atmosphere at the public training session, Jaquez concluded: “It’s a great feeling to start the week with so many fans. That gives us momentum for Saturday.”
