Josha Vagnoman has been a VfB player since summer 2022, and has predominantly been used as a full-back who likes to get up the pitch. The 24-year-old is very happy in Stuttgart, which is one of the main reasons behind his decision to sign a two-year contract extension through to 2028. In this interview, Vagnoman tells us what makes the Cannstatt club such a special place.
Josha, congratulations on your two-year contract extension. You’re clearly very happy in Stuttgart and at VfB…
Vagnoman: “You could certainly say that – and it was a big factor in my decision to continue my journey at VfB. It means a lot to me personally. There’s a great atmosphere around the club. I feel very settled in the team and at the club in general, and I’m really looking forward to the future.”
You’ve managed to help VfB recover much of its former glory in recent years. What have you made of VfB’s journey from the relegation play-offs to finishing runners-up in the Bundesliga, qualifying for the UEFA Champions League and winning the DFB Cup?
Vagnoman: “I’m proud to be part of this journey. Looking back, we’ve already taken plenty of big steps, which is a huge motivating factor to continue on our path. There’s a great atmosphere in the team and we support one another. I also think it’s really positive how the fans spur us on. It’s even better when we can give something back to them through our performances.”
You joined Stuttgart in 2022 as a relatively young player. How did moving to a new city help you mature?
Vagnoman: “Moving to a new club far away from home was a big decision, but looking back, it was definitely the right one and I’m really settled now. I’m very happy to be here.”
You’ve also gained European experience in the UEFA Champions League during your time at VfB. The UEFA Europa League is up next this season. Are you looking forward to that?
Vagnoman: “Of course! Playing European football is every player’s dream. You get to compete against the best teams in Europe, show your skills and find out where you stand on the continental stage.”
