Having netted in the recent 4-4 friendly draw with PSV Eindhoven, Jeff Chabot sees no reason why he can’t continue his goalscoring exploits into the 2025/26 season. To use his own words, the VfB defender already feels “on fire” as the Cannstatt lads turn their attention towards the upcoming friendly with Celta Vigo.
“The standard improves straight away when you play such strong opponents in friendlies – Eindhoven made it really difficult for us,” said Chabot, whose aim for the next few weeks of pre-season is clear. “The results of the friendlies are secondary to us. What matters are the patterns of play and building momentum. We need to reach peak fitness to be able to perform at the highest level.”
Another European opponent in Reutlingen
VfB’s next friendly against foreign opposition – against Spanish UEFA Europa League participants Vigo on Saturday 26 July – should help Sebastian Hoeneß’s players do just that. Kick-off at the Stadion an der Kreuzeiche in Reutlingen is at 15:30 CEST. “We’re looking forward to the game,” added Chabot. “There’s guaranteed to be a great crowd with plenty of VfB fans.”
